Night Prayer
Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.
Inspiration
We drink water every day because we need to. Some days, hard work or illness may leave us with a thirst that we cannot seem to quench. So too, does the quenching of our spiritual thirst for peace sometimes seem an impossible task. Sometimes, we miss the answer because we seek satisfaction in the things of this life, instead of looking to Jesus, the only one who can quench our spiritual thirst.
Prayer
Lord, all of my life I have chased after peace and satisfaction. My thirst has led me to some dark and painful places. Thank You for opening my eyes to the answer that You have set before me. Thank You for sending Jesus to make me whole in You and satisfy my thirst that could not be quenched any other way. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Night Prayer
Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess.
Inspiration
We despise the thought of a pile of dirty dishes in the sink. The outside is easy to clean; it's the caked-up residue on the inside that's so difficult to remove. Jesus compares the scribes and Pharisees with dishes that have been wiped clean on the outside while dirty inside. The Pharisees took exceptional care of their outward appearance and neglected their inward spirits. We are guilty of allowing our hearts to be left filthy as well. We look and act as we should while our souls are full of darkness. We must continue to converse with the Holy Spirit daily and trust His guidance to cleanse our sinful nature.
Prayer
Dear God, Please forgive our sinful nature. We yearn for cleansing from within, so we are genuine witnesses to Your name. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
