Devotion
A Cloud Of Witnesses
Frances Taylor
The author of Hebrews is telling the early Christians that they are surrounded by all those who went before them in faith, living and dying and giving witness to the power of God. Jesus himself is a witness to God's goodness as he did not reject his mission of salvation even though it led to his death on the cross. We, too, are surrounded by a cloud of witnesses.
Our own ancestors are witnesses to the faith that has been handed down to us. We are surrounded by those believers who testify to their faith every day. They may be family members, co-workers, members of our church or community, or strangers who inspire us. We are also expected to be witnesses to others. We are responsible for spreading the message of the Kingdom within our families and our communities. People look to us as examples of God's love in the world. We were baptized to be disciples who are living images of Jesus in today's world. We are de facto God's hands, eyes, voices ...
Morning Prayer
For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.
Inspiration
As Christians, we are the ones who can be called born of God. We are children of God meaning that we have been begotten by Him; we are born of Him. This means that we have overcome the world! Victory is certain for us – in life and in death. No work of the enemy can ever prevail over our lives and we can have confidence about this because we know that we are born of God.
Prayer
Dear God, I rejoice because I know that I am your child. Thank you, Lord, that victory is certain in my life as a result of being your child. No weapon of this world fashioned against me will ever prosper. Thank you, Father, that I can walk tall because I know that you are with me. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
Night Prayer
I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.
Inspiration
We are no longer bound to sin! Instead, we have chosen to serve a living God, a Heavenly Father who loves us beyond our understanding. When we surrender our will to God, we see the ministry He has designed us to complete. God blesses us with talents and spiritual gifts we use to bring others to know Him. We devote our lives and vow to use our mind, body, and soul to complete work for the Lord.
Prayer
Dear God, we are devoted to You and willingly commit our mind, body, and soul to the works You have laid before us. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
