The Gift of Talents

We all know this parable. The man gives each of his servants goods "according to his ability" and expects them to do something with them. The first two servants increase the value of the property, but the third buries his and does nothing with it. God gives each of us gifts according to our abilities and expects that we will use them, work with them and increase them. For many years, children born with Down 's syndrome were put into institutions because they were thought incapable of learning. Today, we see children and adults with this condition working, acting, in relationships – doing many of the things we take for granted.

A family I know has a daughter with Down's syndrome who is now in her fifties. When she was born, her parents were advised to put her in an institution, but they refused. They worked with her so that she learned to read, to use money, so that she was able to get a job as well as to participate in community activities. One ...

But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

Inspiration 

It is through Jesus Christ that we have been qualified as children of God. When we believe in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, who did all of this so that we could be saved, we are accepting the new life He has given us. This is a life of redemption; a life as sons and daughters of God, whom we became separated from after the Fall of man. We have now come into a life of righteousness and holiness.

Prayer 

Thank you, Lord, for setting me free from the sin power had over my life. I have chosen to leave my old, sinful self and I am fully focused on walking in the life of righteousness and holiness you have called me to live through your Son. Thank you, Father, that you are always there to reinforce my faith when anyone tries to tell me otherwise. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.

Night Prayer 

Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.

Inspiration 

Sin will enslave us and become the master of our lives if allowed. Sin binds us in darkness, and we become submissive to our fears. Jesus is a light in the dark, and we have accepted Him as our Lord and Savior. Sin has no control over us! We have repented our sinful ways and surrendered our lives to the will of God. Serving Him replaces a life of misery with joy and peace.

Prayer 

Dear God, we ask forgiveness for our transgressions. We surrender our lives to You and will serve You instead of our sinful desires. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
